Mountain Ash I

As a work in progress, this piece has harnessed two aspects of the creative process. The first is the background blending and painting out of the white space. Secondly, it captures the whimsical sense of the natural world.

The Mountain Ash tree is found in our Calgary backyard and the tree is forever changing. This is an early spring depiction where the antler-like-twigs remain from the previous summer and the new life of the bursting bud is unfolding.

As the first of a series, it shows the changing Mountain Ash. The second phase is delicate white flowers, the third phase is the striking orange berries and the final phase will be the changing leaf colour of the autumn. It is a fantastic tree and it has great colour with which to play.
